In a strategic collaboration between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki, India is set to witness the launch of three exciting new models that are poised to redefine the automotive landscape. Embracing the concept of badge-engineering, these vehicles will blend the best of both worlds, combining Maruti Suzuki’s proven engineering with Toyota’s legacy of reliability and innovation.

Toyota Rumion: A Stylish Rebirth of the Ertiga (Expected Launch: August)

First in line for release is the Toyota Rumion, a revamped version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Already known as the Rumion in markets like South Africa, this MPV will hit Indian roads soon. While staying true to the Ertiga’s core features, the Rumion will boast distinctive styling changes, such as a new bumper with revised fog lamp surrounds, an Innova Crysta-like grille, and elegant alloy wheels. Inside, the Rumion will offer a refined ambiance with a blacked-out dashboard accentuated by wood-like inserts, complemented by black upholstery.

Retaining Maruti’s reliable 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 103hp and 137Nm of torque, the Rumion will be available with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Like its counterpart, the Rumion will also be offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit, catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly alternatives.

Next-Gen Toyota Vellfire: Luxury Redefined (Expected Launch: September)

At the other end of the spectrum lies the luxurious next-generation Toyota Vellfire, set to arrive in India as a full import. Sporting an outlandishly opulent design language and a spacious interior, the Vellfire provides a true premium experience. The India-spec model is expected to feature the Executive Lounge package, offering sumptuous captain chairs for the second row with retractable tables, ventilation, ottoman leg rests, and more.

Built on Toyota’s TNGA-K modular platform, the Vellfire will house a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder petrol-hybrid powertrain producing 250hp and mated to an e-CVT transmission. Alternatively, there’s a 279hp, 2.4-liter petrol engine paired with a CVT gearbox, providing international customers with additional choices.

Toyota’s Version of Maruti Fronx: A Sub-4m Crossover Delight (Expected Launch: Diwali)

Completing the trio of launches is Toyota’s version of the Maruti Fronx, a sub-4m crossover designed to fill a crucial niche in the Indian market. With minimal cosmetic changes from its Maruti counterpart, the Toyota Fronx will maintain a sense of familiarity while sporting a Toyota badge and a unique identity.

Inside, the cabin will retain the essence of the original design, featuring new colors for the trim and upholstery. Equipped with advanced features and technologies, the Toyota Fronx will leave no room for compromise.

The powertrain options for the Fronx will likely mirror those of the Maruti variant, including the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine in both petrol and CNG configurations, along with manual and AMT gearboxes. Additionally, Toyota enthusiasts can look forward to the 1.0-liter BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine, a rarity in Toyota’s predominantly hybrid and diesel-focused lineup.

With Toyota’s swift rollout plan, these badge-engineered models are all set to capture the imagination of Indian car enthusiasts. The blend of Maruti Suzuki’s expertise with Toyota’s legacy ensures that these new offerings will deliver a thrilling and reliable driving experience, catering to a diverse range of preferences and needs. Prepare for an exciting automotive journey with Toyota’s latest ventures in India!
