Notably, our friends at Kolesa have utilized the sparse, available images to create a speculative rendering of the revamped vehicle’s aesthetics.

In a brilliant marketing ploy, Toyota is pairing the upcoming Land Cruiser with its beloved predecessor, the FJ62 from the late 1980s, underlining the SUV’s return to a retro aesthetic. The future model inherits the classic’s blunt nose and rectangular headlights, while introducing its chiseled fender flares.

So far, a solitary image of the Land Cruiser’s interior reveals the presence of a rocker switch for switching between high and low gear ranges. Notably, there’s an intriguing H4L setting, which, speculatively, might be a high range mode with a locked differential.

The next-gen Land Cruiser is widely speculated to use Toyota’s GA-F body-on-frame platform, although official confirmation is pending. This platform underpins the Lexus GX, which employs a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine, pushing out 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, the GX also features full-time four-wheel drive and a lockable Torsen limited-slip center differential. However, it’s interesting to note the GX does not have the H4L setting present in the upcoming Land Cruiser.

The GX boasts a standard drivetrain that includes full-time four-wheel drive and a lockable Torsen limited-slip center differential. The new model incorporates an electronically controlled transfer case for quicker shifts between 4WD-High and 4WD-Low compared to the previous iteration. It’s noteworthy that the Overtrail grades also come with a locking rear differential.

When it comes to choosing a new car, one of the most significant decisions you’ll make is selecting the body type that best suits your needs and lifestyle. Two popular choices are Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and Sedans, each with its own set of advantages and drawbacks. In this comprehensive comparison, we’ll explore the key differences between SUVs and Sedans to help you make an informed decision.

Design and Size

SUVs: Sport Utility Vehicles are known for their rugged and versatile design. They typically feature a higher ground clearance, larger wheels, and a more substantial body structure. SUVs come in various sizes, from compact crossovers to full-size models, offering ample passenger and cargo space.

Sedans: Sedans have a more traditional car design with a low ground clearance, sleek lines, and a trunk at the rear. They are generally smaller and more aerodynamic than SUVs, making them ideal for urban driving and maneuvering in tight spaces.

Passenger Capacity

SUVs: One of the primary advantages of SUVs is their ability to accommodate more passengers. Many SUVs offer three rows of seating, allowing them to carry up to seven or eight passengers, making them an excellent choice for larger families or those who often travel with friends.

Sedans: Sedans typically have a more limited passenger capacity, with most models accommodating up to five passengers. While some sedans do have a fold-down rear seat for additional cargo space, they are generally not as versatile for carrying large groups of people.

Cargo Space

SUVs: Due to their larger size and flexible interior configurations, SUVs offer generous cargo space. You can easily fold down the rear seats to create a vast cargo area, making them suitable for hauling sports equipment, furniture, or other bulky items.

Sedans: Sedans usually have a dedicated trunk space, which provides storage for groceries, luggage, or smaller items. However, the limited trunk capacity may not be sufficient for larger cargo needs.

Fuel Efficiency

SUVs: Historically, SUVs were less fuel-efficient compared to sedans due to their larger size and higher weight. However, advancements in technology have led to the development of more fuel-efficient SUVs, especially in the form of hybrid and electric models.

Sedans: Sedans generally offer better fuel efficiency compared to SUVs, especially in terms of compact and mid-size models. This makes them an attractive choice for those seeking better mileage and lower fuel costs.

Driving Performance

SUVs: SUVs provide a commanding driving position and improved visibility due to their higher ground clearance. They often have a more robust and stable driving feel, making them suitable for off-road adventures or adverse weather conditions.

Sedans: Sedans have a lower center of gravity, which results in improved handling and agility, especially during cornering. They offer a smoother and more comfortable ride for everyday commuting and highway driving.

Safety and Handling

SUVs: SUVs are generally considered safer due to their larger and more substantial structure. They often come equipped with advanced safety features and technologies to enhance occupant protection.

Sedans: Sedans are also equipped with safety features, and their lower height contributes to a lower risk of rollover accidents. They excel in urban driving, where maneuverability is crucial.

Conclusion

Choosing between an SUV and a Sedan depends on your specific needs, lifestyle, and preferences. If you require ample passenger and cargo space, an SUV might be the better choice. On the other hand, if you prioritize fuel efficiency, driving comfort, and easy maneuverability, a Sedan may suit your needs better. Consider your daily driving habits, family size, and desired features to make the right decision and find a vehicle that perfectly matches your lifestyle.

SAIC, the parent company of MG Motors, has recently filed a design patent for the Baojun Yep electric SUV in India, hinting at its plans to introduce the model in the country by 2025. The Baojun Yep was recently unveiled in production form in China, and now it seems that MG is preparing to bring its rebranded version to the Indian market.

The design patent indicates that the India-spec Baojun Yep, rebranded under the MG badge, will closely resemble the China-spec model, with minor changes such as MG badges at the front and rear. Similarly, the MG Comet in India closely resembles the Wuling Air EV in China, with slight differences in bumper design.

The Baojun Yep is a retro-themed all-electric SUV with a 3-door layout and four seats. It shares the Global Small Electric Vehicle platform (GSEV) with the MG Comet EV. The exterior features square LED headlights, a rugged-looking front bumper, plastic cladding on the lower body, roof rails, prominent wheel arches, and a simple rear design. Like the Comet, the Yep also has an asymmetrical window design, and the China-spec model offers an optional LCD screen on the tailgate for personalized messages.

In terms of dimensions, the Baojun Yep measures 3,381mm in length, 1,685mm in width, 1,721mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,110mm. Compared to the Comet, the Yep is slightly larger, being 407mm longer, 180mm wider, and 81mm taller, with a wheelbase that is 100mm longer.

The Yep is powered by a single electric motor on the rear axle, producing 68hp and 140Nm of torque, with a top speed limited to 100kph. Its power comes from a 28.1kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery that offers a range of up to 303km (CLTC). It is expected that the battery specifications may vary for the India-spec model, as the battery pack is likely to be locally sourced, similar to the Comet EV.

The launch of the Baojun Yep in India is planned after MG India’s second round of investment, financing the second plant in Halol, Gujarat. It is expected to be introduced in India around 2025, potentially competing against models like the Citroen eC3. While the official name of the compact electric SUV for the Indian market is not yet known, it is likely to be priced at a premium over the Comet EV. The company’s efforts in localizing production with the Comet EV may result in competitive pricing for the Baojun Yep in India.

With an audaciously competitive starting price of just ₹ 5.99 lakh for the entry-level model, and ₹ 9.99 lakh for the top-end variant, the Exter aims to go head-to-head against its domestic rival, Tata Motors’ Punch SUV.

The introduction of the Exter not only plugs a crucial gap in Hyundai’s lineup but also serves as a defining moment for the South Korean carmaker’s India strategy. Unsoo Kim, the CEO of Hyundai Motor India, declared the Indian market as one of “strategic significance” during the thrilling launch event. Kim’s statement reinforced the company’s unwavering commitment to meeting the diverse needs of Indian car buyers. With a staggering investment of 9.5 billion rupees, Hyundai spared no expense in developing a game-changing vehicle that would set pulses racing across the nation.

India’s automotive landscape has witnessed an unprecedented surge in demand for SUVs, as car buyers enthusiastically embrace the allure of these versatile vehicles. Hyundai’s rival, Maruti Suzuki, made waves last week with the introduction of their premium seven-seater SUV, hoping to win over discerning, upmarket buyers. Now, it’s Hyundai’s turn to make a statement with the Exter. Armed with a host of captivating features, this compact SUV boasts a voice-enabled electric sunroof, a dashboard camera ready to capture the perfect selfie, and a wireless smartphone charger that brings convenience to the palm of your hand. These cutting-edge features, usually reserved for larger and more expensive models, give the Exter an undeniable edge in the fiercely competitive Indian SUV market.

While Hyundai has seen commendable sales figures in recent years, its market share has experienced a slight dip, dropping below 15% from its peak of 17.5% in the 2019-2020 period, as per industry data. Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, on the other hand, have surged ahead with their ambitious new launches. But fear not, as the Exter arrives as a knight in shining armor, ready to reclaim Hyundai’s rightful place in the hearts and driveways of Indian consumers. Ravi Bhatia, the president for India at automotive consultancy JATO Dynamics, expressed confidence in the Exter’s potential to reinvigorate Hyundai’s market share, noting that any new launch is bound to draw eager buyers to showrooms. However, Bhatia emphasized the need for Hyundai to expand its product strategy by venturing into higher segments, tapping into the lucrative market where demand is rapidly growing.

As the dust settles from the grand unveiling, one thing is abundantly clear: the Hyundai Exter SUV has arrived to make its mark in India’s automotive arena. With its irresistible pricing, striking design, and feature-loaded offerings, the Exter is set to rewrite the rules of the game. Hyundai’s bold move signals an unwavering commitment to cater to the evolving tastes and aspirations of young Indian car buyers. As the Exter roars into the spotlight, it brings with it a wave of excitement and anticipation, promising to reshape the landscape of compact SUVs and ignite the passion of a new generation of Indian drivers. Brace yourself, India, the Exter is here to make a statement that cannot be ignored.
